Prow Leads #24 NSU Women's Soccer to First-Ever SSC Victory Over #14 Saint Leo

NSU Runs Winning Streak to Four

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (September 12, 2007) - Freshman forward Lauren Prow (Valparaiso, Ind.) scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the 24th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks (4-1, 1-0) upset #14 Saint Leo (3-2, 0-1) by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex. For the Sharks, it was their first-ever win over the Lions since NSU became eligible for SSC play in 2004.

The start of the game was delayed 36 minutes due to lightning.

The Sharks struck first in the 13th minute when Hayley Oligane (Jr., New Cumberland, Pa.) took a shot from the right side of the 18 following a Shurell Burton (Jr., Palm Bay, Fla.) pass. Oligane's shot deflected off of a Saint Leo defender before finding the back of the net for her fifth goal of the year.

NSU made it 2-0 when Prow took a through pass from Stephanie Quinones (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and slotted the ball past Lions' 'keeper Lauren Hudson.

In the first half, NSU outshot the Lions 11-4 while Saint Leo committed six fouls to the Sharks' three.

Saint Leo would break through, though, in the 56th minute as Sara Macko scored from the left side of the 18 following a cross from Hannah Beard.

NSU answered less than a minute later, however, as Prow struck again for her fifth goal of the campaign, heading in a pass from Stephanie Quinones (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) which was set up by a free kick from Heather Swift (Jr., Titusville, Fla.), icing the game at 3-1.

For the game, the Sharks outshot Saint Leo 17-13 in a physical game that saw 25 total fouls and four cards.

Sarah Glass (So., Melbourne, Fla.), who replaced injured goalkeeper Megan Kim (So., Valrico, Fla.) late in the first half, made two saves while Hudson made four in a losing effort. Quinones tallied two assists in the Sharks' SSC opener.

The Sharks will be back in action on Saturday, September 15 as they host Central Oklahoma at 8pm at the NSU Soccer Complex.
